VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

This December, CFV is proud to recognize Mitchell Opalski as Volunteer of the Month! Mitch first learned about our mission through Founder, LJ Raspler during a Rotary Club meeting where they both served as guest speakers. As the owner of Synergy HomeCare, a company dedicated to serving Veterans in the home care arena, Mitch felt an immediate connection to LJ’s passion for combating food scarcity among Veterans.

Despite his busy schedule, Mitch eagerly stepped up to volunteer as a driver, driven by his commitment to community service and giving back to those in need. His dependability and reliability have made him an exceptional meal delivery driver. Mitch’s favorite part of volunteering is seeing the smiles on the faces of Veterans as he greets them and delivers nutritious meals. For him, this simple act is a meaningful way to express gratitude for their service to our country.

Beyond volunteering, Mitch and his company, Synergy HomeCare have become steadfast supporters of Cook For Vets, sponsoring both the 2024 Souls Feeding Souls fundraiser and more recently, Cook For Vets’,  December Veterans and Friends Holiday Appreciation Dinner. Mitch believes strongly in our mission and encourages others to get involved, stating, “It’s a real shame that food scarcity exists among Veterans. If we are to correct the problem, Cook For Vets is the organization implementing solutions, but they can’t do it without volunteers.”

A native of the DMV, Mitch Opalski is a graduate of Notre Dame, with a background in accounting and finance. His journey in health care began on Capitol Hill with the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) and evolved into a mission of caring for people in their homes. This passion ultimately led him to own and operate Synergy HomeCare of Arlington.Under his leadership, Synergy HomeCare of Arlington has become one of the largest agencies in the franchise system, recognized as one of the top 100 agencies in the nation for customer satisfaction. He has served on nonprofit boards like Senior Services of Alexandria and the Arlington Commission on Aging, volunteers with Meals on Wheels.

As we approach 2025, Mitch and LJ look forward to continuing their collaboration to better serve Veterans in Northern Virginia. Mitch’s dedication and compassion exemplify the true spirit of giving, and we are deeply grateful for his contributions. Thank you, Mitch, for being a driving force in our mission and for helping us deliver hope, one meal at a time.
