Spreading Holiday Cheer: Cook For Vets Honored at Del Ray Business Association’s Annual Holiday Luncheon

On December 14, the Del Ray Business Association hosted its 9th Annual Candy Cane Bar Crawl, and Cook For Vets (CFV) was honored to be selected as this year’s beneficiary. This fun and festive event brought the community together to support nonprofits serving Alexandria residents in need, and we are deeply grateful to have been a part of it. The Bar Crawl, sponsored by the Jen Walker Team, is a beloved Del Ray tradition, embodying the holiday spirit through discounted food and drinks at participating establishments for registered attendees. Despite chilly temperatures, locals came out in droves to join the festivities and contribute to a meaningful cause.

CFV President LJ Raspler attended the event and was amazed by the overwhelming support from the Del Ray community. “It’s truly inspiring to see how this community comes together, especially for a worthwhile cause,” LJ shared. The event not only raised awareness for CFV’s mission of providing food security for Veterans but also highlighted the incredible power of local partnerships and grassroots efforts. The generosity of Del Ray’s residents and businesses helps make our work possible. Events like the Candy Cane Bar Crawl not only raise vital funds but also foster connections that strengthen our collective impact. Thank you to the Del Ray Business Association, the Jen Walker Team, and all the attendees who braved the cold to spread holiday cheer and support Cook For Vets.

On December 16, the Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) hosted its Annual Holiday Luncheon at Lena’s Wood Fire Pizza & Tap, capping off a year of incredible accomplishments for this vibrant community. With high attendance and a packed agenda, the luncheon celebrated the DRBA’s achievements, including the recognition of 2024 Star Award winners—leaders in business, government, and citizens. In the community who exemplify excellence and service. Among the highlights of the afternoon was the presentation of proceeds from the 9th Annual Candy Cane Bar Crawl to Cook For Vets (CFV). In an extraordinary act of generosity, DRBA named CFV the 2024 beneficiary of the event, and CFV President LJ Raspler was presented with a check for $9,267.

The moment was deeply emotional as LJ expressed her immense gratitude through heartfelt tears, sharing her appreciation for the Del Ray community’s belief in CFV’s mission. “We are so grateful to the DRBA and the entire community for recognizing the importance of providing food security to Veterans,” LJ said. “This generosity not only supports our mission but also inspires us to continue serving those who have served our country.”

The luncheon was a beautiful reflection of the DRBA’s commitment to fostering meaningful connections and supporting causes that make a tangible difference. For CFV, the donation is a reminder of the power of community and the shared purpose that drives us all forward. To the DRBA, its members, and the Del Ray community: thank you for your remarkable generosity and for helping us close 2024 on such a high note. Together, we are ensuring that no Veteran faces food insecurity—and that their sacrifices are met with the care and support they deserve.

As we close out 2024, we are reminded of the power of community and the difference we can make together. Here’s to continuing this spirit of giving and support into the new year.
