Katherine: Lighting the Torch of Service with the Cook For Vets Club

In the heart of Falls Church, VA, among its promising young minds, emerges a beacon of service and dedication: Katherine. As a Meridian High School student, Katherine’s journey with Cook For Vets began not out of obligation, but out of a genuine desire to make a difference. Her father’s service in the U.S. Army from 1977-1997 is additionally important as to why Katherine is committed to giving back to those who have served and sacrificed. With eleven months of unwavering commitment, she has witnessed first-hand the profound impact of serving meals and compassion to our nation’s heroes. However, Katherine’s vision was greater than being a solo participant in this noble cause. She envisioned a community where high school students could collectively channel their energy and passion towards serving veterans. And thus, the idea of the Cook For Vets Club was born. Leveraging the atmosphere of the school’s club fair, Katherine embarked on her recruitment drive. Through her experiences volunteering with Cook For Vets, Katherine painted a picture of how each student could contribute and make a tangible difference in the lives of veterans. A staggering fifty-five students answered Katherine’s call, echoing her passion and readiness to contribute to this honorable cause.
