I’m not going to “WINE” about it

I’ve come to believe that there are no coincidences in life. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in late October my husband Jesse and I planned to go to Alexandria’s Paws in the Park, which is a fun-filled day for both humans and four-legged friends. The event not only celebrates the love of animals, but also raises money for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Since I have had a love of animals my entire life and we adopted our fair share of rescued animals when my children were small we were excited to check this out. It certainly did not disappoint as Jesse and I smiled the whole afternoon seeing kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs of all shapes and sizes that were up for adoption. We walked around stopping at the different tables striking up conversations with numerous people which was wonderful. As we made our way around there was one particular table displaying its wares that caught my eye. I stared at their banner for a moment thinking why this particular business was participating in the event. I began speaking to the lady standing behind the table and it soon became clear to me that I was supposed to connect with these people. After overhearing our conversation, Bonnie, a co-owner and partner in the business approached me and said, “my husband, Andrew is a Veteran.” WOW!!! Woodlawn Press Winery is a Veteran-owned, family business that grew from a wine making hobby to a fully operational Urban Microwinery. Now, I must preface this by saying at the time we had not decided who would be the supplier of the wine for the Dress Up To Stock The Pantry kickoff fundraiser. Jesse and I were offered samplings of their vast array of wines and no joke, each one was better than the next. I love Andrew and Bonnie’s philosophy that wine is always simple, fun, and tastes great. I am absolutely thrilled that we attended the Paws in the Park event which inspired us to adopt a rescued cat when the time is right. Now, Cook For Vets is supporting yet another terrific Veteran-owned business who’s making their mark in the community. Needless to say, we purchased all the wine for our fundraiser from them and I look forward to including Woodlawn Press Winery as the exclusive provider of wines for Cook For Vets events.
