God works in mysterious ways! When I became incorporated as the nonprofit, Cook For Vets little did I realize what finding my ideal kitchen meant. It was in early July that I began searching for a suitable space with a commercial kitchen big enough to prepare, cook and box up meals to deliver to Veterans struggling with food insecurity. I spent day after day making calls in the Alexandria, Arlington, and Falls Church area in hopes of locating our new “home”. It was the kind soul at La Cocina VA that encouraged me to call local Methodist Churches as she said “they are the nicest people in the world”. I then proceeded to hone in on every Methodist Church within a 10 mile radius. I left message after message with no responses. One morning several weeks after I had exhausted my search I received a call from a number I did not recognize. My intuition told me to answer the call. It was Pastor James Page of Galloway United Methodist Church in Falls Church calling me back in response to my inquiry. His first words after hello were, “I have a kitchen you can use to cook in.” I nearly fell off my chair because I had all but given up hope of finding our kitchen. We had a brief call and set up a meeting for me to visit the Church and see if the kitchen would even suit my needs. The space is perfect and even has plenty of room for our Food Pantry. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that my meeting with Pastor Page would be the answer to my prayers. Our ideals are truly aligned as we are both service-oriented individuals whose passion lies in serving the greater good and the community at large. We have gratefully found the new home of Cook For Vets!
